NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE

Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive system of care that blends traditional healing modalities with modern evidence based treatments. The goal of care is to identify the underlying cause of symptoms and stimulate the body’s natural capacity to heal. Treating the root cause of imbalances not only leads to improvements with current health, it supports disease prevention as well. Naturopathic Doctors look at the complete picture when taking a health history in order to understand the patient and her unique physical, emotional and lifestyle factors. Once those components are carefully examined, an individualized treatment plan can be designed.

Naturopathic Doctors are required to undergo extensive studies and licensing procedures. As with conventional medicine, they must complete at least 3 years of pre-medical studies followed by 4 years of medical training at an accredited Naturopathic Medical School. Upon graduation, they are required to undergo rigorous licensing exams in order to practice in their province. They are also encouraged to keep learning and to stay up to date with continuing education requirements that they must meet yearly.
